Destroy a Vault Robot Fusion Guide
Turn four identical tanks into a stronger unit once the second island is unlocked.
Robot Fusion is the mid-game crafting spike in Destroy a Vault. After you unlock the second island, you can combine four identical robots into a stronger fused version with better stats. Fusion cleans up duplicate clutter from common rolls, raises slot power without waiting on a perfect rare, and pairs extremely well with mutations and personal DPS upgrades.
This guide covers unlock requirements, the 4-of-a-kind rules, when fusion beats endless rolling, and planning mistakes that waste copies. Read Getting Started if you are not on island two yet, and keep Upgrades handy so fused tanks sit under strong global damage.
How to unlock fusion
Fusion is gated behind island progression. You must purchase access to the second island before the fusion option becomes available. Islands exist to introduce stronger vaults and higher rewards; reaching island two means your Robot Damage, Battery, and slot count are probably ready for a bigger army investment.
Practical unlock path:
- Stabilize clears on island one with slots + Robot Damage + Battery.
- Smelt consistently so Cash funds the island gate (Economy).
- Unlock island two.
- Open the fusion UI and start banking identical copies.
Do not ignore island-one vaults while saving purely for the gate — Gold income funds the unlock. Offline Gold still helps; smelt after login and keep pressure on the current vault.
4-of-a-kind fusion rules
Core rules players need memorized:
- You need four robots of the same type (identical base robot).
- Fusion consumes those four and produces one stronger fused robot.
- You cannot fuse robots that were already created through fusion — fused units are terminal; gather another four base copies if you want another fused piece of that line.
- Fused robots still occupy a normal slot and still benefit from global boards, personal DPS Cash, and Mutations.
Because fused units cannot be fused again, treat each fusion as a finished craft. If you are one core away from mutating a pre-fusion tank you plan to feed into a recipe, wait and mutate the fused result instead when possible.
When fusion beats rolling
Rolling forever for a slightly better rare is not always optimal. Fusion wins when:
- Commons flood the podium. Turning four frequent drops into one strong unit raises average slot DPS and frees Index mental space.
- You need a guaranteed power bump before the next island vault HP spike.
- Roll Spots and Cash re-rolls are eating currency that could buy Robot Damage instead.
- You already have keepers and duplicates are dead weight in storage.
Keep rolling when:
- You are hunting Index uniques for Index Luck (every five uniques; max near 62.5% with 76 robots).
- A natural mutated variant of a better tier just appeared — buy that before fusing junk.
- You are one unique away from an Index Luck breakpoint that improves all future rolls.
A hybrid approach works best: roll for Index and mutants, fuse duplicate piles that will never be Index-new again.
Farming duplicates efficiently
Duplicate farming tips:
- Add Roll Spots once fusion is unlocked and you intentionally mass-roll (Upgrades).
- Raise Robot Luck so higher-value bases appear, then fuse those lines — fusing strong bases beats fusing the absolute worst commons if Cash allows patience.
- Use free podium rolls on cooldown; spend Cash re-rolls only when a four-set is nearly complete.
- Redeem Cash/Gem Codes before a duplicate grind so slots and luck boards stay funded.
Track sets mentally or in a note: “need 2 more of X.” Avoid spending a almost-complete set’s copies into random slot fillers you will regret.
Fusion plus mutations and DPS
Ideal fused tank pipeline:
- Gather four identical base robots.
- Fuse into the stronger unit.
- Place it in a primary slot.
- Buy personal DPS upgrades with Cash.
- Apply a Mutation Core if it is not already mutated.
- Keep global Robot Damage / Battery current for the new island.
Mutating before fusion can waste a core if the pre-fusion units are consumed. Prefer mutating the fused output. Details on cores and Gems are in Mutations.
Island two and vault progression
Island two is both the fusion unlock and a difficulty jump. Stronger vaults pay better Gold but punish weak armies. After unlocking:
- Immediately evaluate whether fused DPS is required to keep clear times healthy.
- Do not dump all Cash into fusion-adjacent re-rolls while vaults stall — maintain damage/battery.
- Use the higher Gold flow to fund Vault Gold Value later, not before your fused lineup exists.
Economy pacing across islands is covered in Economy. Controls for finding fusion-related UI after unlock are in Controls.
Strategic mistakes
- Trying to fuse before island two and thinking the feature is broken.
- Feeding already-fused robots into another recipe (not allowed).
- Fusing away your only copy of a robot still needed for Index display goals without a plan.
- Ignoring mutations on fused keepers.
- Spending four rare copies into fusion when one mutated rare plus three fillers would have been better slot math — evaluate case by case.
Fusion is a tool, not a mandatory sink for every duplicate. Sometimes holding extras for future recipe changes or simply selling/replacing is fine; the wiki will update if LoopForge changes recipes.
Quick decision checklist
Ask before each fusion:
- Is island two unlocked?
- Do I have four identical non-fused robots?
- Will the fused unit enter an active slot soon?
- Am I about to mutate — should I wait for the fused result?
- Would this Cash/time be better as Robot Damage right now?
If you answer yes to 1–3 and the upgrade alternative is weak, fuse. Otherwise roll, smelt, and upgrade. For the full guide map, return to the Guides Hub.
Fusion turns the game’s duplicate noise into intentional power. Unlock island two, respect the four-copy rule, never try to fuse a fused tank, and park the result under mutations and damage boards for the strongest mid-game spike Destroy a Vault offers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Destroy a Vault questions.
When does robot fusion unlock?
Fusion unlocks after you purchase access to the second island. It is a mid-game feature, not available in the first-hour tutorial phase.
How many robots do I need to fuse?
You need four identical robots of the same type. Fusion consumes them and creates one stronger fused robot.
Can I fuse robots that are already fused?
No. Robots created through fusion cannot be fused again. Gather another four base copies if you want a second fused unit of that line.
Should I fuse or keep rolling for better robots?
Fuse when duplicates clog your inventory and you need guaranteed DPS. Keep rolling when chasing Index uniques or natural mutated variants.
Should I mutate before or after fusion?
Prefer mutating the fused result so Mutation Cores are not spent on base copies that will be consumed in the recipe.
